Tour Overview
On this private Dresden tour, you’ll get a complete overview of the art, architecture, and history of Dresden, with a mix of sites that range from 18th century churches to modern-day art installations.
Stops on your tour include the stunning Frauenkirche (“Church of Our Lady”), a Lutheran church that boasts one of the largest domes in Europe, as well as the spectacular Semperoper opera house, where famed composers Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss first presented their works to the public.
You’ll also see the Zwinger palace gardens, a Rococo-style complex dating back to the early 1700s, and the Green Vault, which contains the largest treasure collection in Europe (inside on demand). And you’ll wander through Neumarkt, the city’s historic center that was almost completely destroyed in the Allied bombings of the Second World War.
Your local guide will also lead you on a stroll along Elbufer, the beautiful northern banks of the Elbe River, for some gorgeous views of the Dresden skyline.
Then, your private tour will take you through the Neustadt, or the “New City” of Dresden — although it’s not quite so “new.” This neighborhood has been around since the 1700s! You’ll explore this baroque area, stopping at sites like the Goldener Reiter (“Golden Rider”), which depicts King August the Strong, the Dreikönigskirche (“Three Kings’ Church”), which is a listed cultural monument, and Pfunds Dairy, which is “the most beautiful dairy shop in the world,” according to the Guinness Book of Records.
You’ll also visit the surreal Kunsthofpassage, one of the most refreshingly artistic spaces in the Neustadt. This outdoor art exhibition featuring works like the famous funnel wall that turns rain into music. A visit inside the Panometer is also essential, with its 360-degree paintings by artist Yadegar Asisi that show the history of Dresden (on demand).
By the end of your half-day private tour, you’ll have taken in all the highlights of Dresden — and no doubt picked a few places you’d like to return to!
